From our house to yours, Happy Holidays!

Some of us are painting, others, not so much

The waiting is the hardest part

The husband is painting the tv room “bermuda grass green”. It is gorgeous. He is a perfectionist, and thus makes a fabulous room painter. Me, not so much. I tried to help cut in the primer, but since I have the attention span of a gnat, it didn’t pass muster. So, I, along with Miss Kitty, have been relegated to waiting, waiting, waiting.

Fall in central Florida

November 7, 2012

When I thought about moving to Florida, I worried I would miss the seasons, especially fall. I love the colors, crispness, and cornacopia of holidays from Halloween to Thanksgiving. I worried that Florida would be sunny all of the time (can you imagine?). I have been pleasantly surprised. Fall has arrived in Central Florida. Cool mornings with crunchy leaves and houses decorated with mums and pilgrims greet me for my daily walk. The local supermarket carries my favorite type of apple, macoun. For the first time in over 35 years, I actually had trick or treaters knocking on my door. I bought full sized candy bars in anticipation, and heard “you rock”, as each kid was overjoyed to be getting a real candy bar as compared to those specially shrunk bagged ones. Fall festivals abound in the area, and I was able to pick up to pots of muhly grass to plant by my front door at the local enchanted forest. And as if I am in an alternative universe, where I used to live, people are suffering without electricity, heat, water, and in some cases without their houses.

The Atlantis rollout

November 2, 2012

Today we went to the Atlantis rollout from Exploration Park to the Kennedy Space Center. If you bought a ticket you got to see the shuttle move, then sit, on the road, so you and 3,999 of your fellow ticket holders could get pictures in the morning. Then in the afternoon the street to the space center would be lined with other ticket holders to see it make her final journey to the unfinished building where she will be housed. Once inside, Atlantis will be sealed in to a permanent building with exhibits about space travel. The exhibition is scheduled to be open July 2013. Since this is our first visit to the center, we went full tilt boogey and bought tickets to see it at Exploration Park prior to the big move. For an additional add on of $5.00 with our ticket stubs we got a year pass to the Kennedy Space Center, and we will be able to see Atlantis in her final berth.
